Congratulations to Misty Cove who have recently been awarded a Gold Medal for Revelation Organic Sauvignon 2017.
This was awarded to the Misty Cove Organic Sauvignon Blanc 2016 from the Marlborough region of New Zealand. A particular favourite of ours, it’s a truly great wine.
Misty Cove is a family owned and operated boutique wine company producing from the Marlborough region of New Zealand. Founded in 2008, Andrew Bailey and his family oversee the vineyard and wine-making process right through to the sales, marketing and administration ensuring every bottle of Misty Cove is lovingly hand crafted. You can find out more about this brand on our dedicated brand page.
Andrew Bailey said this about his award winning wine: “Misty Cove Organic Sauvignon Blanc is made to reflect our environment. It’s not about what we take out of the land, but more what we put back into it and increasing our organic program is fundamental to this philosophy.
In its third year, the 2016 vintage was relaxing and quite typical of Marlborough where long dry spells and warm days enhanced the ripening period and cooler nights heading into autumn helped retain balance and beautiful acidity in our fruit.
Following the night harvest, the fruit was crushed, gently pressed and the resulting juice was settled before cool fermented in stainless steel using different yeasts, including 25% wild fermentation and 10% being barrel aged for 10 weeks to added complexity. The wines were then blended and balanced shortly after completing fermentation and prepared for bottling.
The wine is elegantly fragrant on the nose showing grapefruit, lemon peel, flint and subtle herbaceous characters. The palate offers pristine fruit flavours and fine texture, brilliantly structured by bright acidity. The wine is beautifully poised and fresh, and displays delicate fruit intensity.
A rewarding Sauvignon Blanc to be enjoyed with a wide range of fresh ingredients or simply as a classy aperitif”
